Emma Thompson's life completed by 'adopted' refugee

Thursday October 8, 2009

Emma Thompson's mother has spoken of the happiness brought to the actress by the Rwandan refugee she informally adopted six years ago.

Tindyebwa Agaba - a former child soldier who slept rough when he first came to the UK – had made the Sense and Sensibility star, her husband Greg Wise and their ten-year-old daughter a family, said Phyllida Law.

"He's a gift for their daughter Gaia because she's got a big brother who adores her.

"And for me, certainly. He's my big grandchild… He makes me laugh."

"He's quite the most wonderful young man. We're so proud of him."

Tindy, now 22, charmed Emma when they first met at a Christmas party for the Refugee Council.

Earlier this year, the whole family was overjoyed when he celebrated graduating from Exeter university.
