Controversy after 'X-Factor' eviction deadlock

Monday October 8, 2012

Carolynne Poole was the first contestant to be evicted from the live finals of X-Factor on Sunday.

The Over 28s contestant went head to head with Rylan Clark, which led to a tension-fuelled decision from the judges meaning Louis Walsh sent the competitors into a deadlock.

After Gary Barlow voted for country singer Carolynne and Nicole Scherzinger voted for flamboyant showman Rylan, Tulisa Contostavlos decided that she would vote for Carolynne based on the night's performance.

However, Louis was torn between the contestants, and could not arrive at a decision over which artist to keep on the show.

The judge's indecision led to the vote going to deadlock, meaning that the contestant with the lowest votes from the public went home. This resulted in Carolynne leaving the competition, and Gary storming out of the studio in fury.

Carolynne was said to be "gutted" about the decision, described Louis' hesitation as "off-putting", and said that "she still hadn't had the chance to cry yet."
