Mia Farrow takes the stand in war crimes trial

Tuesday August 10, 2010

A week after Naomi Campbell appeared in court in The Hague denying any knowledge of the origin of the diamonds she received at a 1997 dinner at Nelson Mandela’s house, actress Mia Farrow contradicted the model’s claim.

Mia testified that during breakfast the day after the incident, Naomi told those present that she had received “a huge diamond” from “men sent by Charles Taylor” during the night.

Naomi, on the other hand, had stated that she had been sleeping when two men knocked on her door and gave her a bag with some “dirty-looking stones”. She said that she was unaware of who had sent the men.

Both Naomi and Mia have been asked to testify at the trial accusing former president of Liberia, Charles Taylor, with 11 charges of war crimes, which include using “blood diamonds” to fund rebels.
