Thursday April 11, 2013

Helen Glover and Heather Stanning have been honoured by the Queen for being the first British females to win Olympic gold medals for rowing in 2012.

Honoured at Windsor Castle, the pair and their coach Robin Williams were given MBE's at the esteemed ceremony. Gold medallists Peter Charles and Dani King were also awarded in the sporting fervour.

Enigmatic musician Kate Bush was also awarded a CBE by the Queen. Known for rarely making public appearances and only touring once in her life, the songstress released an official statement to thank those who have inspired her for her accolade.

"I feel incredibly thrilled to receive this honour which I share with my family, friends and fellow musicians and everybody who has been such an important part of it all," she said.

"Now I've got something special to put on top of the Christmas tree."
