Author Sue Townsend, who rose to fame in 1982 with the publication of The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole 13 ¾, has passed away at the age of 68.
The eight volumes of books she wrote about her character sold millions and spanned decades as the novels followed the angst-ridden teenager growing up.
Sue was left blind after suffering from diabetes for many years, and in later year dictated her novels to her son.
As well as her Adrian Mole series, Sue released other successful novels including The Queen and I.
Tributes poured in for Sue, including from Harry Potter author JK Rowling who tweeted: "So sad to hear about Sue Townsend. She gave me so many laughs. #AdrianMoleWillLiveForever"
