'American Idol' winner in hospital after overdose

Wednesday August 11, 2010

Fantasia Barrino, the winner of season three of American Idol, was hospitalised on Monday after overdosing on aspirin and a sleeping aid, her manager has confirmed.

The 26-year-old is said to now be "stable" and will be released from hospital soon, Brian Dickens told a US publication.

Fantasia was recently named in court documents filed by Paula Cook, who accused the singer of having an affair with her husband.

On Tuesday, Mr Dickens said Fantasia and Antwaun Cook had "dated off and on for 11 months," but said that "he told her he was not happy in his marriage" and that he and his wife had "separated in the late summer of 2009".

Fantasia read Mrs Cook's complaints for the first time on Monday, and while she calls some of the allegations false, she has said she is "heartbroken and sorry for any pain she may have caused," her manager said.
