Star Trek star Chris Pine has been charged with drink-driving after being stopped by police in New Zealand last weekend.

The actor was reportedly stopped by the police while he was driving in Methven, New Zealand, where he is currently filming his new movie called Z for Zachariah.

“He has been charged with driving with excess blood alcohol and will appear in the Ashburton District Court on Monday 17 March,” New Zealand police said in a statement.

The 33-year-old was seen leaving a wrap party for the film early Saturday morning, when the police were doing a routine drink-driving operation nearby.

Chris, who became famous for playing Captain Kirk in the Star Trek film franchise, is based in Los Angeles.

Casey Crawford, the manager of the pub where the party was held, expressed surprise when she learned about the charge.

According to her, “he seemed fine,” and he had brought model girlfriend Iris Bjork Johannesdottir to the party. The pub had also advised all guests that sober drivers had been arranged to take people home.
