Matthew Morrison: working with Elton was 'surreal'

Monday June 13, 2011

Matthew Morrison has admitted he was slightly starstruck when he performed with Sir Elton John for his latest album.

The all-singing, all-dancing star - otherwise known as Will Schuester in hit TV show Glee - managed to score a duet with Elton, a massive Glee fan whose song Don't Go Breaking My Heart featured in one episode, for his self-titled new record.

"It was fun working with him, but it was surreal and for three days afterwards I was like, 'Did that really happen?'," said Matthew, who admits he was "pretty cool" on the outside despite feeling massively starstruck.

The curly-haired actor, who was a Tony award-winning Broadway star before landing a role in the E4 show, also duetted with Gwyneth Paltrow on a version of Somewhere Over The Rainbow for the album.

Gwyenth played Mr Shue's love interest Holly Holiday in Glee, and Mathew was quick to sing her praises.

"We loved working together," he said, breaking out into a broad grin.

"She became such a good friend of mine and I knew she was coming back to shoot another episode so I just asked her to be on the album, because I wanted a female duet.

"Our version of the song is very ukulele driven but I put a lot of strings into it which we recorded at Abbey Road. The bit I wanted to bring out in this song, which isn't done so much these days, is the great prelude to the song."
