Mercury Music Prize shortlist revealed

Thursday September 13, 2012

The prestigious Mercury Music Prize shortlist, comprising of twelve contenders, has been revealed

Plan B and previous nominee Richard Hawley are favourites to win the prize.

However, the award is famed for its unpredictable winners.

Established acts such as The Maccabees and Field Music will be contending, as well as lesser-known groups such as Alt-J and Django Django, who have both received critical acclaim for their debut albums.

Folk and Jazz acts have also been recognised in this year's competition, with performers such as Sam Lee and Ben Howard fighting for the title.

Regarded as one of the most sought-after awards in British music, the prize offers a cash prize, a boost in sales for the nominated artists as well as invaluable publicity for the acts.
