Orlando Bloom named Unicef ambassador

Thursday October 15, 2009

Lord of the Rings actor Orlando Bloom has become a goodwill ambassador for the UN children's organisation Unicef.

The 32-year-old will work to help disadvantaged children and raise awareness of the charity.

His first project in his new role is to film an appeal about the importance of clean water supplies.

Orlando has been involved with Unicef since 2007, when he visited schools and villages in Nepal (pictured), and he has since made trips to Moscow and Sarajevo on behalf of the organisation.

"I look forward to working with Unicef as they continue to make the world a better place for children," says the actor, who is following in the footsteps of David Beckham, Angelina Jolie and Roger Moore.
