Natasha Kaplinsky leaving Five at the end of the year

Friday October 15, 2010

When she joined Channel Five in 2008, Natasha Kaplinsky became the highest-paid newsreader in Britain.

But it was confirmed this week that the 38-year-old has decided to part ways with the broadcasters at the end of the year.

A source close to the mum-of-two told the Daily Mail: "Natasha made her decision to leave only recently. It is by mutual agreement, but the new direction of Five is not for her.

"She has been meeting other broadcasters and is excited about the future and a few possible deals."

Natasha spent part of her three-year tenure at Five on maternity leave.

Six weeks after securing the job – she was made anchor on both Five's nightly new bulletins – she announced she was pregnant, and took six months leave around the birth of son Arlo in September 2008.

She returned in February 2009, only doing the early evening bulletin in return for a reported £300,000 pay cut.

That October, she revealed she was expecting her second baby; a little girl named Angelica Pearl who she welcomed in April.

A spokeswoman for Natasha said that the presenter had enjoyed her time with Five but felt the time was right to explore other opportunities.
