Single mum Michelle Williams battled tears at the Golden Globes as she dedicated her award to her six-year-old daughter Matilda.
“I consider myself a mother first and an actress second," she said.
"So the person I most want to thank is my daughter, my little girl, whose bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life.”
Michelle, recognised for taking the lead role in My Week with Marilyn, emphasised that Matilda's understanding made it possible for her to be a success.
The blonde beauty also revealed that she had prepared for the role by reading bedtime stories to her daughter in a breathless Marilyn voice for six months.
Matilda's father Heath Ledger died in 2008 when she was only three years old.
