Wednesday February 16, 2011

It has been confirmed that Prince William and Kate Middleton will travel to Canada for their first overseas tour as a married couple.

The trip will take place from June 30 to July 8, 2011.

A spokesman for St James's Palace said: "Prince William was pleased to accept an invitation on his and Miss Middleton's behalf from the government of Canada."

"He was keen to be able to visit Canada for himself as an adult, and to be able to show his wife a country that is close to his family's heart."

During their two week tour of the Commonwealth nation, the couple will visit Alberta, the Northwest Territories, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and the capital, Ottawa.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has expressed his delight at the news, adding that the trip "is a testament" to the country's "very close relationship with the royal family."
