Tiger Woods announces golfing comeback

Tuesday March 16, 2010

Tiger Woods has announced that he will return to competitive golf next month.

The star, who has been away from the golfing circuit since November 15 following revelations about his private life, has said his first competition back will be The Masters, which starts on April 8.

The 34-year-old appeared in public in February to apologise for his personal conduct, but said he wasn't sure when he would return to competition.

Now, though, he's decided the scene for his comeback will be the first major tournament of the year, hosted in Augusta, Georgia.

"The major championships have always been a special focus in my career and, as a professional, I think Augusta is where I need to be, even though it's been a while since I last played," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

"I have undergone almost two months of inpatient therapy and I am continuing my treatment.

"Although I'm returning to competition, I still have a lot of work to do in my personal life," he added.
