Princess Eugenie takes gap year travels to Kenya

Tuesday June 16, 2009

After backpacking around South East Asia, Princess Eugenie is now all set to visit Africa during her gap year before starting University. But while her visits to Thailand and Cambodia were purely to unwind, the emphasis on her forthcoming trip will be on charity rather than leisure.

The Queen's granddaughter, who plans to start her further education at Williams College in Massachusetts in the autumn, is first to visit Kenya to undertake work experience with charity ACE Africa. The organisation helps orphans and vulnerable children affected by AIDS in remote rural regions of East Africa.

Nineteen-year-old Eugenie's interest in the cause was sparked by her mother the Duchess of York, who is a supporter of the charity and recently attended its fifth anniversary party in London.
