Butler ban for the no-fuss Duchess of Cambridge

Thursday June 16, 2011

The low maintenance Duchess of Cambridge has overruled plans to hire her a dresser.

Staff at St James’s Palace immediately withdrew an internal advertisement for the post of “housekeeper/dresser”, to assist Kate and husband Prince William.

Sources close to the new royal told the Daily Mail she thought it a “waste of money” and said that she doesn’t want to be “seen as a clothes horse”.

On their North American tour, the newlyweds will travel with a pared-down entourage of just seven.

And the 29-year-old intends to wear outfits from her existing wardrobe.

Friends said that the Duchess feels “perfectly happy and confident” choosing her own clothes for official engagements.

Officials took the blame for the hiring mix-up.

“I made a boob. It is the first time I have worked for a lady,” said Jamie Lowther Pinkerton, William and Kate’s private secretary.

“It was a move on my behalf to create a structure that was based on what is traditional.”
