Falling in love didn't dull grief for Heath, says Michelle

Wednesday September 16, 2009

Michelle Williams, the former partner of late actor Heath Ledger, has spoken out about life, love and dealing with the tragedy.

"After the first year, the pain is less intense; it's less immediate," says the mum-of-one, who was with the Brokeback Mountain actor for three years.

Heath, who died in January 2008, is survived by his four-year-old daughter with Michelle, Matilda Rose.

"Every time I really miss him and wonder where he's gone, I just look at her," she says.

Michelle, who split from the 28-year-old just months before his accidental overdose, returned to the dating scene last year.

"I thought falling in love again was the only thing that was going to save me from the pain," says the former Dawson's Creek actress, who has been seeing director Spike Jonze.

"This was an erroneous idea: it just makes things more complicated.”
"I feel hopeful and grateful," she says. "For a while I thought we had lost everything. It makes you want to love better and live better."
