Queen writes to schoolboy after finding his balloon

Friday October 16, 2009

A five-year-old schoolboy has made a royal connection after the Queen picked up his balloon in the grounds of Windsor Castle.

Little Charlie Castle was one of 80 school children in High Wycombe who released a balloon in celebration of the end of term.

Days later, the British monarch came across it - albeit slightly deflated - when she was out walking her corgis and sent Charlie a personal message.

In it she said she was "delighted to see how far it had flown and was so happy it was your balloon she found".

"It was so exciting to get the letter. I was surprised my balloon had flown so far. I'm just glad that the Queen's dogs didn't eat it!" said Charlie.

"It's lovely the Queen cares about the normal things in life and appreciates what five-year-old boys care about," his mother added.
