Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon steps down

Wednesday November 16, 2011

It’s official – the lady who made Jimmy Choo a household name is leaving the brand.

Tamara Mellon, who is worth an estimated $180 million, has stepped down as chief creative officer of the celeb-favourite footwear label she formed 15 years ago with designer Jimmy Choo.

In a post entitled 'Goodbye Note' on her A Day, A Thrill blog, Tamara wrote: “I am so proud of all we have achieved at Jimmy Choo over the last 15 years and know that the best is yet to come… Love Tamara x.”

And the fashion mogul took to her Twitter account to thank her followers personally for all of their support.

“Just retweeted all of your amazing messages - Thank you all my tweet friends. I will keep you posted!”

The 44-year-old is said to have made her decision following the company’s takeover and integration with private Italian luxury goods group Labelux.

Although Tamara has declined to comment, WWD magazine reported that she already has her next project planned – a lifestyle brand under her own name.

Apparently, “funding is already in place for a Tamara Mellon brand, but [there are no] further details or a timetable for a launch.”

Jimmy Choo is worth a repotred £500 million.
