'Batman' actor Michael Gough dies at 94

Michael Gough – who famously played Alfred Pennyworth in the Batman films – has passed away at the age of 94.

The veteran British actor has appeared in more than 170 films and television series over the course of his career.

Having made his debut in the 1947 movie Blanche Fury, he gained a cult following for his parts in Hammer Films productions such as 1958's Dracula.

But he is best known for his portrayal of the savvy butler in the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman movies.

In 1997's Batman & Robin he last played Albert, a part Michael Caine has since taken on in the more recent Christian Bale films. 

He's is survived by his wife Henrietta, sons Simon and Jasper, and his daughter Emma.
