Ingrid Tarrant convicted after parking ticket row

Friday July 17, 2009

Ingrid Tarrant, the ex-wife of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire's Chris Tarrant, was wrestled to the ground and handcuffed by police after a confrontation over a parking ticket, a court heard this week.

The 54-year-old was said to have been "abrupt and rude" when an officer tried to issue her with a ticket on Christmas Eve 2008.

She drove away, ignoring his requests to stop, and was chased by officers for two miles before being restrained and put in the back of a police van.

Ingrid denied the charges at Staines Magistrates Court saying she had felt "intimidated" and "petrified" during the encounter. She claimed to have driven off because she was frightened of the officer involved.

She was, however, charged with failing to stop for a Pc, causing an unnecessary obstruction, and resisting a policeman.

The Hertfordshire-born presenter, who received an estimated £12.5 million last year in her divorce settlement from Chris, was ordered to pay a £2,700 fine and £1,200 costs.
