Message from Sarah Ferguson marks Fern's last show

Friday July 17, 2009

It was an emotional day for Fern Britton on Friday as she bid farewell to Phillip Schofield and the rest of the This Morning crew.

The blonde TV presenter burst into tears several times during her last show - which ended her ten-year run on the programme's famous couch.

Fern - who was also celebrating her 52nd birthday - wasn't given a script, and instead Philip bombarded her with surprises.

During the two-hour show there were cocktails, games, clips of Fern's best moments, and messages from famous well-wishers - including one from Sarah, Duchess of York.

"In my 25 years in the public eye, you are the kindest and most special presenter I know. You are no pushover. Thank you for your care and your golden heart," she wrote.

Stars sending video messages included Jason Donovan, Lionel Richie, and Barbara Windsor, while Fern was serenaded by Michael Ball and John Barrowman.

Posting on his Twitter page after the show, co-host Phil said: "Bl**dy hell!! What a morning, we're all wrecked. I was sure I'd hold it together. What a wuss. Now I'm going for a drink."
