Macca, Madonna and Sting support Pussy Riot

Friday August 17, 2012

Human rights activists have taken to the streets in support of Russian rock band Pussy Riot after they were found guilty of hooliganism in Moscow.

Sting and Madonna are among several celebrities who have publicly sent their support to the band.

Sir Paul McCartney also wrote to the rockers, telling them to "stay strong" and that he would do everything in his power to help.

'Free Pussy Riot' supporters appeared with banners outside Russia's embassy in London and crowds of masked protesters could be seen on O'Connell Street, Dublin's main thoroughfare.

The three female bandmembers face up to seven years in jail after being arrested in March for staging an unauthorised performance in Moscow's main cathedral calling for the Virgin Mary to protect Russia against leader Vladimir Putin.

Durign the concert the trio wore short, sexy outfits, brlightly coloured tights and their trademark bright balaclavas.
