Hilary Mantel breaks record in Booker Prize win

Wednesday October 17, 2012

Hilary Mantel has scooped her second Man Booker prize, making her the first female to have achieved the double-win.

The author initially won the prize for the first part of her Tudor trilogy, Wolf Hall, and has now won again for the second installation, Bring Up The Bodies.

Overwhelmed by the award, Hilary said: "You wait 20 years for a Booker Prize and two come along at once."

She added: "I know how privileged and lucky I am to be standing here tonight. I regard this as an act of faith and a vote of confidence."

As well as the prestige, there are other financial benefits to the prize, with the average Booker winner receiving an average £1 million in sales. Shortlisters receive £2,500, and Hilary will receive £50,000.
