Wednesday July 18, 2012

Will Smith and his daughter Willow were on hand to support his wife Jada Pinkett Smith as she spoke to US Congress about human trafficking.

The actress and activist told how it was Willow, 11, who had alerted her to the issue after seeing the a YouTube documentary about Ugandan warlord Joseph Kony which depicted children who are forced into sexual slavery or used as soldiers.

On Tuesday, Jada testified during a hearing on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, which plans to launch a campaign to raise awareness and take action against human trafficking and slavery.

The 40-year-old said “Fighting slavery doesn’t cost a lot of money,”  adding: “The costs of allowing it to exist in our nation and abroad are much higher.

"It robs us of the thing we value most — our freedom. We know what that freedom is worth.”
