Michelle Dockery becomes Oxfam ambassador

Tuesday August 19, 2014

Downton Abbey's favourite Michelle Dockery has been announced as Oxfam's first humanitarian ambassador.

The English actress, who plays Lady Mary Crawley in the award-winning costume drama, joins other famous UK ambassadors for the charity such as Paloma Faith and Harry Potter star Bonnie Wright, as well as global ambassadors Bill Nighy, Annie Lennox, Livia Firth and Helen Mirren.

Michelle, 32, has been heavily involved in the charity organisation since last year, following a trip to Jordan to meet Syrian refugees. Her support for Oxfam in Syria has been unwavering ever since, and on her return she launched the charity's 12 Days of Giving campaign to raise further funds for refugees as well as auctioning her Emmys dress.

Following the announcement on World Humanitarian Day, Michelle added: "I feel very honoured to be given this role as Humanitarian Ambassador for Oxfam. I hope that in accepting this role, I will be able to help Oxfam raise awareness for their work, what they need to help those in crises and to show those who do donate what an amazing difference their support can make."
