Russell Brand calls Mr Obama about West Ham fan status

Monday April 20, 2009

As the co-host of a two-hour football special on the radio, loyal West Ham United supporter Russell Brand decided to take advantage of the role to get in touch with his team's most famous fan, President Barack Obama.
Fronting Sunday's TalkSport show with Oasis guitarist pal Noel Gallagher - a follower of Manchester City football club -  the cheeky 33-year-old placed a call to the White House answering machine to confirm the American leader is indeed a supporter of the East London club.
"Dear Barack Obama, we are calling you to find out if you are in fact the world's most famous West Ham supporter as it is claimed," Russell said in his call.  His TalkSport stint marked the comic's first appearance on radio since he resigned from the BBC in October.
He continued: "I haven’t ever seen you at Upton Park. And what formation do you suggest Gianfranco Zola plays," a reference to the team's Italian manager.

According to reports Mr Obama has been a fan of 'the Hammers' ever since a trip to England five years ago, and he watches Premier league games whenever his schedule allows
