Linford Christie's beauty queen niece eyes Olympics

Wednesday May 20, 2009

Rachel Christie is one busy lady. Not only has the striking 20-year-old niece of Linford Christie just been crowned Miss London, she's also following in her uncle's trainer-clad footsteps by setting her sights on attaining a gold medal at the 2012 Olympics.

The sporty beauty, who'll swap her running shoes for high heels in July to represents the capital in the Miss England competition, is currently training six days a week at Hammersmith's Linford Christie Stadium. Aready highly ranked in the 400 metres and the heptathlon, she has the added advantage of being coached three times a week by her gold medal-winning uncle.

Being a rising athlete as well as a beauty queen is not without its difficulties, however, not least of which is deciding which would take priority. "If I had to choose between the two I really don’t know, but if I was given the chance to go for Olympic gold I think I'd choose that," she says
