The Tonight Show host Jay Leno has accepted a pay cut in order to spare other workers losing their jobs.
The show recently shed members of staff in a bid to clamp down on expenses and improve its financial performance.
The payroll purge affected about 10% of the estimated 200 people who work on The Tonight Show, which is the top-rated US late-night TV programme.
The 62-year-old's annual salary will now be reduced to about $20 million (£12.8 million), having previously been between $25-30 million.
The star also brings in substantial income touring as a stand-up comedian.
Bruce Bobbins, Jay's spokesman said: "Jay's foremost concern is for the wonderful people who work with him at The Tonight Show, he did what was necessary to ensure their wellbeing."
Several other staffers on the programme also took job-saving pay cuts.
