Earl Spencer calls off engagement to Lady Eliot

Monday September 20, 2010

Six months after announcing their intention to wed, Earl Spencer and Lady Bianca Eliot have called off their engagement.

Lawyers acting for the pair (pictured in 2009) have confirmed that their relationship came to an end "some time ago" adding that they remain friends.

The brother of Diana, Princess of Wales had been dating Lady Bianca for 19-months before their engagement was announced.

Had the wedding taken place, Bianca, 33, would have become his third wife.

In 1989, he married Victoria Lockwood, with whom he has four teenage children, but the couple split in 1997. He then wed Caroline Freud in 2001, mother of two of his children, but filed for divorce in 2006.

Lady Eliot, who met the 46-year-old at the Groucho club in London in 2008, tragically lost her first husband Jago in 2006.
