George Clooney contracts Malaria - and recovers

Friday January 21, 2011

It has been revealed that Hollywood heart-throb George Clooney contracted Malaria during a recent trip to Africa (pictured).

But, his rep has confirmed, the 49-year-old star has thankfully made a full recovery, contrary to some reports.

"George is completely over the Malaria he contracted while in the Sudan during the first week in January," his spokesman said.

"This was his second bout with it. This illustrates how with proper medication, the most lethal condition in Africa, can be reduced to a bad ten days instead of a life sentence."

News of George's illness broke on Thursday when new talkshow host Piers Morgan tweeted that the Ocean's Eleven actor was still fighting the illness.

"It's his second bout of malaria," he wrote. "Taking medication but feeling rough."

George's interview with Piers, which was taped on January 13, is due to air in the US on Friday.
