American actor Wayne Allwine, who was the voice of Mickey Mouse for 32 years, has died. He passed away, aged 62, of complications from diabetes. His wife, actress Russi Taylor, who provided the voice of Minnie Mouse, was by his side.
The actor, (pictured with his wife) worked in the mailroom of the Walt Disney Co before he became the voice of Mickey in 1977. He was the third person to voice the famous cartoon mouse following Walt Disney himself and Jimmy MacDonald.
Bosses from the company were full of paraise for the actor, who also won an Emmy in 1986 for sound editing on the NBC series Amazing Stories. Director Roy Disney said he gave Mickey Mouse "a heart and soul".
