Miley Cyrus honoured with youth leadership award

Tuesday February 22, 2011

She has been named worst celebrity influence for the past two years by AOL's Just so you Know teen website and has recently hit headlines for the wrong reasons.

But Miley Cyrus has been presented the first-ever Global Action Youth Leadership award, thanks to her impressive charity efforts.

The former Disney star was recognised for her work with the Blessings in a Backpack Program and the Get Ur Good On campaign with Youth Services of America.

During her acceptance speech, she said: "I want kids to do something they love.

"Not something that seems like a chore because someone tells them that's the right thing to do or what their parents want or what's important to people around them but what's on their heart."

Miley's dad, country singer Billy Ray Cyrus, recently revealed his regrets concerning his daughter's stardom, telling how Hannah Montana had "destroyed" his family.
