Sylvester Stallone announces 'Rocky' musical

Wednesday November 23, 2011

Sylvester Stallone's classic boxing movie Rocky is to be made into a musical.

The 65-year-old action star made the announcement in Hamburg, Germany, where the stage show will premiere in November 2012.

"I've always thought Rocky had the right stuff for a musical and have wanted to do it for a long time," he confessed.

The Expendables star said he wanted the show to focus on the love story between Rocky Balboa and his future wife Adrian.

Tony Award-winning songwriter Lynn Ahrens and composer Stephen Flaherty will write the musical score.

It will, of course, feature the film's iconic Gonna Fly Now theme tune and Survivor's Eye Of The Tiger.

Silvester was joined at the press conference by boxing champion brothers Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko, who are producing the show and will train the lead actor.

"I imagine I will be able to help the future star of the show to learn the body language of Rocky and to develop a feeling for the character.

"Boxers are always tense, always moving around, and each one has his own characteristics."
