"We have just lost a Hollywood giant. More importantly, we have lost an incredible human being."
This was Elton John's tribute to Hollywood legend Elizabeth Taylor who passed away "peacefully" on Wednesday.
He led the mourning from friends of the iconic actress who joined thousands of people expressing their condolences.
Actor Michael Caine said: "So sad to hear about my beautiful friend Elizabeth Taylor. She was a great human being."
Liza Minnelli also shared words to memorialise the beauty.
"She was a true star. She not only had beauty and notoriety – Elizabeth Taylor had talent. As a friend she was always there for me. I'll miss her for the rest of my life," she said.
Having directed Elizabeth in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, for which she won an Oscar, Mike Nichols was eager to pay tribute to the star.
"The shock of Elizabeth was not only her beauty. It was her generosity. Her giant laugh.
"Her vitality, whether tackling a complex scene on film or where we would all have dinner until dawn. She is singular and indelible on film and in our hearts."
