Anna Friel addresses pressures of being a young working mum

Wednesday June 24, 2009

British actress Anna Friel has spoken out about the difficulties of juggling her acting career with motherhood.

The 32-year-old actress carried on working after the birth of her three-year-old daughter Gracie with long-term partner, Harry Potter actor David Thewlis, and has said of life working as a young mum: "I'd be a liar if I said it was easy."

"I think it's very different nowadays for working mothers. Before, a woman could take two years off…but I don't think that's possible for women in show business or in any industry anymore."

"You just have to keep going – keep looking forward. If you stop, you're like, 'Oh God, it's too overwhelming.' And believe me, I've had my fair share of those moments."

The Pushing Daisies star revealed she once went seven days without sleep while filming in Spain in 2004, when Gracie was a baby. "The ground was moving and I felt I was going to faint," she recalls. "If you can get through that, you can get through anything. You get so overtired"

Land Of The Lost actress Anna will be treading the boards in London's West End in September when she stars as Holly Golightly in a stage production of Breakfast At Tiffany's.
