Steve Carell on being a cool dad

Monday June 24, 2013

Anchorman star Steve Carell has opened up on being a cool dad.

Speaking on ITV’s show This Morning the American actor claimed to owe his new title as down to his recent role in Despicable Me 2.

“It’s kind of a cool dad thing – when they have friends over and they say ‘Dad, do the voice’… it’s a very easy way to impress my kids’ friends,” he said.

Despicable Me 2, the sequel to the 2010 animation of the same name, sees Steve reprise his role as the goofy villian Gru.

Speaking with Phillip and Holly, Steve admitted the character had impressed his children.

However, he added that trying to be cool had the immediate reverse effect.

"As soon as you start to try to converse with them about music they like or dance the way they're dancing you are immediately not cool at all!"

Steve has two children aged nine and 12. He recently described “My family=Happiness” on Twitter.
