Thrifty Kate wears five-year-old coat for debut

Friday February 25, 2011

Kate Middleton recycled an outfit that's been in her wardrobe for some time for her first royal engagement on Thursday.

Embodying British style in a beige tailored, herringbone coat, the princess-to-be revealed her thrifty side at the RNLI lifeboat naming ceremony in Anglesey.

She had previously been photographed wearing the coat by Wiltshire-based designer Katherine Hooker in 2006 at the Cheltenham Gold Cup equestrian event.

But fashion-forward Kate did make a small alteration.

The mid-calf length coat had been scissored by Katherine Hooker to above the knee to show off  Kate's shapely legs.

It is known as the London Contrast coat, and costs between £500 and £700.
