Thursday April 25, 2013

Doctor Who is taking on Downton Abbey in the Monte Carlo TV Festival awards, with both nominated in the drama category.

The two hit shows are among the 12 nominees in the field, which also includes Homeland, which stars British actors Damian Lewis and David Harewood, and Breaking Bad against Danish dramas The Killing and Borgen.

The awards, known as 'The Competition', recognise the best TV programmes and actors from around the world and are chosen by a star-studded jury.

Channel 4's university-set sitcom Fresh Meat and BBC's long-running sci-fi series Red Dwarf are among the nominees for the TV comedy category, alongside US hits 30 Rock and Modern Family.
ITV's detective drama Broadchurch and BBC's Dancing On The Edge battle it out for top mini-series, along with American show Hatfields And McCoys.
