Alicia Keys performs in Manchester cathedral

Tuesday September 25, 2012

Soul songstress Alicia Keys got in touch with her spiritual side when she performed in a cathedral for MTV Crashes Manchester.

The 14-time Grammy Award winner said that performing in such a sacred space was "a real honour".

She said: "It was great, I loved it. I've been feeling so interestingly different performing these songs,"

"Today I felt so calm, and paced, and right in the zone with the crowd. I haven't performed these songs a ton of times, like four shows so far or something, but I guess that's enough to start feeling confident and get the flow. I loved this show, and what a beautiful venue."

Performing to more than 1,000 fans, the singer showcased exclusive material from her highly anticipated album, Girl On Fire.

She added: "The record expresses everything that I've done leading up to this point, where I'm a woman in her own space. The music is really powerful, some of it aggressive, like the title song, some of it so stripped back and vulnerable, or haunting. There are so many different feelings on the record."

The singer has sold more than 30 million records worldwide.
