Ann Widdecombe flies in 'with the greatest of ease'

Monday October 25, 2010

Never ceasing to surprise, Ann Widdecombe made a daring entrance onto the Strictly stage on Saturday, floating in like a bird before being lowered to the ground in a move that set the bar for the evening’s competition.

After landing, her impressive tango with partner Anton du Beke earned Ann her highest mark so far in the show with 21 out of 40.

When it came time to face the judges the 63-year-old quipped in her trademark self-deprecating humour: “You do realise the Ark Royal is being de-commissioned, I thought I would give you the flying fortress."

Despite a few unkind remarks from judge Craig Revel Horwood, the other judges were impressed.

Bruno Tonioli enthusiastically exclaimed: "Truly out of this world. Was it a bird? Was it a plane? No it was starship Widdecombe."

Not so successful at his Charleston was former footballer Peter Shilton who was the third contestant to be voted off the show.
