Homeland star Damian Lewis has signed on to the new John Le Carre film, Our Kind of Traitor, and is also rumoured to be joining a BBC adaptation of Hilary Mantel’s Booker Prize winning books.

Joining the Emmy award winner in the big screen adaptation of the Le Carre thriller will be Ewan McGregor, Sherlock star Mark Gatiss, and Naomie Harris.

Mark Rylance is already confirmed for the BBC six-part series which will turn Mantel’s Wolf Hall and Bring Up The Bodies in to one story charting the rise of Thomas Cromwell.

The British actor took the lead role in American drama Homeland in 2011, playing Brody, a Marine who is hailed as a hero after he returns home from eight years of captivity in Iraq.

Claire Danes’ intelligence officer Carrie Mathison however, suspects that he may have been "turned”.

At the end of the last season, Damian’s character was killed off, paving the way for his return to British film and television.
