Octavia Spencer rouses Tinseltown with emotional win

Monday February 27, 2012

Octavia Spencer’s turn as a feisty maid in The Help has won her an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress.

Hollywood's finest gave the stunned actress a standing ovation as she collected the coveted statuette.

Her voice breaking with emotion, Octavia seemed overwhelmed as she struggled to name check all those who had helped her career.

"I share this with everybody" she said, fighting back tears. "I'm wrapping up, I'm sorry, I am freaking out. Thank you world".

She later disappeared backstage to re-apply her eye make-up, but the 39-year old's emotional speech drew this reaction from host Billy Crystal: "That moment for Octavia is what the Oscars is all about".

Octavia’s win also resonated with a host of celebrities, with many moved to congratulate her on Twitter.

Former Academy winner Jennifer Hudson wrote: "Yes!!!! Welcome to the family Octavia !! Congrats!!!

Amazing!!" while Kelly Rowland added: "Congratulations to Octavia Spencer for her Oscar win! You truly deserve it! God Bless!"
