Viewers complain that 'Strictly' costumes come up short

Monday September 28, 2009

The new season of Strictly Come Dancing has certainly generated a lot of interest - from the controversy surrounding Alesha Dixon's appointment to Joe Calzaghe and Kristina Rihanoff's romance.

The latest talking point for fans is the costumes worn by the contestants and dancers, which have been deemed too revealing by some for family viewing.

While ballroom dancing is known for its extravagant outfits, many viewers believe the show has taken it too far.

"They should wear clothes that are elegant rather than suitable for an adult-only show," one viewer said.

While some reports suggest it was an attempt to 'sex up' the programme, others say it is down to budget cuts in the wardrobe department.

Last week professional dancer Ola Jordan danced in a dress which some compared to a spider's web, while this week contestant Zoe Lucker -left - and Phil Tufnell's partner Katya Virshilas -right - took to the stage in little more than leotards and fringing.
