Gritty 'EastEnders' dominates Inside Soap Awards

Tuesday September 28, 2010

It's been a tough year on Albert Square, with drugs, death and the departure of beloved landlady Peggy Mitchell.

But those gritty plot lines have paid off as EastEnders won a remarkable six gongs at the Inside Soap Awards on Monday.

The show bagged the prestigious Best Soap prize, with Lacey Turner winning Best Actress for the fifth time in a row for her role as Stacey Branning.

Scott Maslen, better known by soap-lovers as Jack Branning, was awarded Sexiest Male.

"It's an honour to win this," he said. "It's voted for by the public, which I'm grateful for, but I do get ribbed by my friends for the Sexiest Male award."

"When you're 20, it's fine, but I'm 40 next year. It's all good if people think I'm sexy, but they wouldn't if they saw me first thing in the morning."
