Ali Bastian waltzes to victory on Christmas Strictly

Monday December 28, 2009

The Bill actress Ali Bastian has been crowned the Strictly Come Dancing 2009 queen of the dance floor in a special Christmas edition of the show.

Twenty-six-year-old Ali, who was named runner-up when she recently competed in series seven of the programme, beat off competition from this year’s winner Chris Hollins and second place star Ricky Whittle to take the title.

She and partner Brian Fortuna were awarded a perfect score of 40 by the judges for their Viennese Waltz.

And, more importantly, their performance to Please Come Home For Christmas by the Eagles, also won over the audience who voted them to the top.

Judge Craig Revel-Horwood praised the actress’ dance as “stunning, gorgeous and an absolute classic”, while Bruno Tonioli added: “That was an impeccable Viennese Waltz of supreme beauty.”

Others stars competing for the prize included Rachel Stevens, Austin Healy and Gethin Jones.

The victory tops off a great festive period for Ali, who recently confirmed in HELLO! that she and Brian are now in a relationship after meeting on the show.

The pair are so smitten that the US dancer bought Ali flight tickets to join him and his family for Christmas in New Jersey.
