Madonna relying on power of prayer for Mercy adoption

Wednesday April 29, 2009

Madonna has been holding private prayer sessions in New York as she prepares to appeal her failed bid to adopt a little girl from Malawi.

On May 4 three of the African country's Supreme Court of Appeal judges will hear the singer's arguments in favour of her being  allowed to add four-year-old Mercy James (pictured) to her family. The youngster would be a sibling for the Material Girl's daughter Lourdes, son Rocco with ex-husband Guy Ritchie, and the former couple's younger son David, also adopted from Malawi.
In the meantime she has arranged Kaballah services in her own home and at the house of a wealthy friend.

"The prayer sessions include her three children, often with a focus on 12-year-old Lourdes, who has been praying for her new sister every day," a source told the Daily Express.

According to the source, the 50-year-old "believes the power of prayer and spirituality will give her Mercy at the appeal"
