Details of robbery attack on designer Nicole Farhi revealed

Friday May 29, 2009

The court hearing evidence in a case involving French designer Nicole Farhi has learned how the 62-year-old fashionista was threatened with a knife and strangled until she passed out when she was attacked on her doorstep in London by thieves in April last year.

During the robbery, two men stole an £8,000 diamond ring, cash and a Rolex watch - which she had pleaded with them not to take as it had sentimental value - the court was told.

Nicole, who runs her own fashion label created in 1983, lost consciousness during the attack which occurred on the drive of her home in Hampstead in North-West London.

Upon hearing the commotion her playwright husband Sir David Hare chased the thieves down the road, but they escaped in car.

Nicole was one of dozens of professional women who were attacked in a robbery spree from March to June last year. Two brothers are accused of terrorising some of London's wealthiest areas, including Notting Hill and Chelsea, by looking for glamorous women to target
