Sarah Ferguson reveals new book plans at clinic launch

Tuesday June 30, 2009

It may have seemed like an unlikely friendship as the Duchess of York chatted away to The Who singer Roger Daltry and Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones this week.

It turns out the three have a common interest, though, which became clear as they attended the opening of a Teenage Cancer Trust hospital unit in Cardiff.

The flame-haired royal and Roger (pictured) - fellow patrons of the charity - joined active supporter Kelly in meeting patients and staff at the new £3 million centre, based in the University of Wales.

And taking a moment to talk about her forthcoming projects, the Duchess revealed she has found the inspiration for her new literary project. "I am going to write a book for children about an elephant," she said.

"JK Rowling can write about people on broomsticks and that stimulates children's imagination," she continued, referencing the Harry Potter author. "But think about trying to tell a child what an elephant looks like if they didn't exist?"

It's all go for Sarah, who is currently following a strict diet and exercise regime - with the help of David Beckham's personal trainer - in preparation for her 50th birthday in October.

"I am going to run along the beach at 50 and be footballer fit, not just fit fit," she says.
