Fame not a bed of roses, says X Factor's Alexandra Burke

Wednesday September 30, 2009

Since winning the X Factor last Christmas, it appears 21-year-old Alex Burke has been living on the crest of a wave.

Not only did the songstress secure herself the £1 million prize money, a chart-topping track and recording contract, she was also quick to make close pals with celebs such as Kate Moss and Sir Elton John.

It hasn't all been a dream come true for the singer, though, as she has revealed that her time in the spotlight has caused friction within her family.

Mum Melissa, a former singer with Eighties group Soul II Soul, has struggled to cope with her daughter's new-found fame.

"Although she's proud, it's like she wants to rewind time to when she was younger, when she didn't have kids," Alex shares.

And the X Factor win didn't just have an effect inside the home. Alex's Islington neighbours reportedly started to cause her problems which led to her moving out and setting up home in Barnet.

The culprits apparently threw stones at her car and smashed a window in her block of flats.

Helping her through the difficult times is the Hallelujah star's former mentor and good pal Cheryl Cole.

"I'm very open with her and she is with me. I tell her lots of things I wouldn't even tell my sister."
